What’s hot in the world of social media this week? Welcome to the Lexis Digest! The Social Media And Digital Download:
- One of the more interesting debates to have been ignited following those pictures of Prince Harry, has been the battle between print and digital media, and whether the former is falling behind the times. In an attempt to embrace the digital age, the Wall Street Journal launched WSJ World Stream on Monday, a hub for mobile video content filmed by WSJ’s global editorial team on their smartphones. Clips will all be under one minute long (the optimum length for sharing) and will all undergo editorial review
- Twitter has come under fire for removing the stamp that tells you which Twitter client those you follow have tweeted from. The likes of Echofon, Hootsuite and Tweetbot will no longer get the valuable third-party endorsement from their famous users that they previously enjoyed. This move has sparked a retaliation campaign called #OccupyTwitter – calling for Twitter to remain an open platform
- Reddit (or the ‘front page of the internet’, as they like to be known) has already raised millions of dollars for charitable causes, but this week they have made it official with RedditDonate powered by start ups Dwolla and Stripe. As of this week, managers of the site’s topic pages (or Subreddits) can install the new “Donate” buttons on their pages and accept donations for certain non-profits
